Lennon's 'Karma' helps raise money for Darfur
Instant Karma, an all-star album benefiting Amnesty International's ca
mpaign to end the Darfur genocide, arrives June 12 with an elementary pitch...
...A key lure is #9 Dream by R.E.M., featuring departed drummer Bill Berry for the
first time in 10 years. (A-ha also does the tune for the European disc.)
Due on radio today, Dream was a one-shot, "but who knows what the future holds," R.E.M. bassist
Mike Mills says. "He's still a fantastic drummer. It's my favorite John Lennon solo song, and it's a nice opportunity to have
an influence, however small, on pressuring the Sudanese government to let U.N. troops in.

R.E.M was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame late Monday night after an
incredibly moving, humorous, and personalized tribute by presenter Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. After Mike and Michael gave
acceptance speeches, the band performed "Begin the Begin," "Gardening At Night," and "Man on the Moon" (w/Vedder on vocals),
and then segued into Iggy and The Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog," followed by closing number "People Have The Power" which
included members from each of the groups inducted. The Stones' Keith Richards, who presented the Ronettes earlier in the evening,
also played on "People Have the Power."
We hope to have photos, transcripts, and video later today, so please stay
tuned. | |

REMHQ is very pleased to announce that R.E.M and two-time Grammy Award winning producer Jacknife Lee will work
together on the band's next record. R.E.M. and Lee plan to begin recording this spring.
Lee's impressive production
resumé includes work with U2 on"How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb," for which he received two Grammys, Snow Patrol's last two
records, "Final Straw" and "Eyes Open," and Bloc Party's highly acclaimed "A Weekend In The City." Mike Mills of R.E.M. says
that he and bandmembers Peter Buck and Michael Stipe are very excited about getting back to work with Lee in the driver's
seat: "We are psyched to work with Jacknife Lee. We've got a great batch of new songs, and can't wait to put them down."
Lee,
based in the UK, also expressed his enthusiasm for working with R.E.M.: “There is no model for REM,” says Jacknife.
“Consistently one of the Great Bands, if not the greatest. They push themselves further than most, doing every time
what is the goal for any artist - explore. These new songs are some of their most exciting and visceral yet.”
Lee's
production credits also include records by Aqualung, The Hives, The Editors, and Kasabian.
